  1. Below are my thoughts on this, often, touchy subject. I’ve taken a long look at the concept and execution of the Dark Zone and its gameplay and have come to the conclusions below as to why it so harshly divides the community, why it should work and why it doesn’t work. Perception: Firstly, the learning curve is drastic! Unless you have great knowledge of the game meta, builds etc any PvP you face in the DZ will be very one sided. I see Players who are more used to PvE constantly complain as they don’t understand how they’re toon can be killed so rapidly…fact is they’ve only faced Ai…usually never tried a Legendary or Heroic mission, maybe never faced a Hunter in Survival. They don’t realise and have never had the experience of PvP. They’re build isn’t optimised for PvP. They fail, get killed constantly and, seemingly, too fast for it to be allowed in the game…must be hacks, exploits, cheaters… the DZ is full of cheaters clearly…crappy game. …see? Their perception is that the DZ is where all the Cheaters go, it’s a broken area and “Why can’t we just have a PvE Dark Zone?” What went wrong: Inexperience. That’s where it went wrong. Massive came with practically zero experience building a PvP arena style game, they didn’t do their research. They knew what and how they wanted things to go but forgot the first law of MMO's. - If players will be dicks in an online game, and they will do all they can to be the biggest dicks they can be. Suddenly you have players camping extraction zones. Spending dedicated hours creating meta builds and exploiting every loophole possible in the game mechanics. Players deliberately running into your shots so you go Rogue by accident … basically being huge Trolls and suddenly Massives' lovely game is broken to pieces. It's not how they wanted the play to develop. Players just weren't playing the game by the rules they wanted them to. How does it get better: The first step forward was subcontracting out development of the DZ and PvP to Red Storm. A development house with ACTUAL MMO PvP experience. Drawback is that how Massive built the DZ, how they built all the game mechanics meant that Red Storm have a HUGE uphill struggle. They’re constrained by the source coding deep in the game. Bottom line the Dark Zone will NEVER actually be “fixed”. There will always be some element of “broken” about it as it can’t be rebuilt from the bottom up. I say this as I'm pretty sure it would have been by now...this strongly means its just not possible. However, Red Storm have shown us how things could have been … firstly with Last Stand and now with Skirmish Mode. The key was shown as Normalisation. You can enter the mode with any build you want, meta'd to any level, but stats will be normalised…levelled out. Yes, there are still ways to exploit some builds but these are far more minor than the whole concern around the DZ. In Last Stand for example I’ve gone in with pure PvE builds and whilst I’ve not done very well, I’ve not had players kill me in one shot as they could in the DZ. I believe normalisation was the solution I proposed very soon after the game released (somewhere on these forums long ago). The reason it’s not been implemented into the DZ still, and it appears never will, are clearly due to the fact the bottom layers of core coding to build the DZ are focused on the same coding as the LZ and this will always prevent the obvious solution. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the players neither have the experience or knowledge of how games are actually built and how such early choices in game mechanics can influence areas of game play. All they see, all they vocalise, is that the game is broken. It’s true, it is…in that area but its broken BECAUSE the LZ isn’t broken, for the very same reason that the Light Zone is fun, makes the Dark Zone horrible for many. Red Storm can improve the situation. I also believe that modes such as Last Stand and Skirmish have been built DELIBERATELY to try to move gameplay focus out of the DZ…to lessen the number of dedicated PvP players in the Dark Zone artificially. Less players with the PvP meta builds physically in the DZ, ultimately the better for PvE players entering the DZ. The Logic is simple if flawed. Flawed because of course… First Law of MMO's: People will be dicks. Those who want to be dicks will realise exactly that there are less skilled, tooled up, players in the DZ…that the chances of running into a player who can face them down will be far less. …so less wolves = more prey. There will be a period of quiet as PvP players migrate to the new game modes but ultimately you will face a meta-gamer again. Conclusion: The Dark Zone is broken, long live Last Stand and Skirmish. PvE players ought to realise that there are far more PvE opportunities in the game and either visit the DZ rarely or take the hits more on the chin. The DZ won’t and shouldn’t be a safe place, unfortunately it will also never be a FAIR place. Red Storm can help to modify some issues but they're bandaids over a big wound. However, I don't see the Dark Zone as a failure. What it doesn't do is explain to players exactly what it is and how it works...sure it "tells" them...but clearly the full implications of it are not understood or there wouldn't be any issue, would there? Despite doing exactly what it says on the tin, I think the fact there are PvE elements in the DZ lead many to neglect the warnings or just choose to not understand them. Game on people….
  2. Good day, agents. After taking some time to get to grips with the game's UI and gameplay style, I've started to take a keen eye for sniping (with the M700 Carbon) and handling close-to-mid range targets with an AR (typically the SCAR-L, or the Classic M1A (or any other variant of the M1A)). If the M1A isn`t working, I would typically switch to the MP5. Can you recommend any snipers or ARs aside from those two? Maybe just going through my loot consistently and switching up my weapons for higher DPS could help, but does the Recalibration station work well? On another topic, I've had some unfortunate luck in the DZ, too. I'm only a GS248, but that shouldn't be too great of a difference from GS256, right? I didn't have any many talents or attributes unlocked at that time, so maybe they might help. Back on the subject of gear sets, I have looked through what is available, and I must admit that there are more options than I thought. Anyway, I have been looking into the DeadEYE and Banshee sets. Do you think they would work well with the Sniper (M700 Carbon/SRS A1/whatever) and the AR (SCAR-L Variants, etc) or SMG application? Please leave feedback and thoughts below, I would love to discuss this! V.

  5. So I have been running the Underground for a bit and finally got my 2nd Agent up to level 30 so I could also run with him as well. Having got a total of 27 stashes between the two agents, I had enough for full B.L.I.N.D. and FireCrest gear sets so decided to try them out. These are my observations. Note: The gearsets are not optimised but are also not terrible with the pieces I used. This is mainly from solo play. Team play can be used to complement much better I would imagine. B.L.I.N.D. Set Bonuses; 20 bonus critical pulse damage 100% blind / deaf resistance Killing an AI flashbangs that location. This one I had high hopes for, especially running solo, to stop big mobs rushing. I was disappointed. My use case was to have Underground rushers (when you first enter an area and set them off) get blinded and pause so you could whittle them down with each kill stunning the rest again until they are all gone and then the remaining lone wandering AI (ie. snipers) can be dealt with. Observations; Blind did not work on free roam with rioters at all. The flashbang would go off but the rioters would not be affected. Didn't see any rioters in other areas but would presume the same issue persists. Blind worked quite well with LMB, blinding them when it went off and causing them to pause (free roam and underground). The flashbang has a cool down so you cannot effectively chain them in to a continual stun (major issue for me). The flashbangs going off was pretty cool when you killed the AI. I didn't encounter other AI types when playing with this suit equipped but could go back and test if needed. FireCrest. Bonuses given; Gives 3 more incendiary ammo 100% reload speed Killing a burning AI give incendiary ammo for 10 seconds. So my use case for this one was the same as I would imagine others would be.... fire, fire everywhere. Unfortunately, again, not quite as practical as I would have hoped. I find myself commonly forgetting to activate fire bullets. There are only 6 incendiary bullets you can carry with new stocks requiring a trip to BoO or searching bags scattered around and being lucky. I have emptied a 220k dps 54 round G36 mag close range in to a Cleaner grenadiers grenade bag, on two separate occasions) in challenge mode and it would not go off. Once you are out of incendiaries you have to be quite inventive with setting bad guys on fire in order to prop the 4 piece bonus (the item above sorta excludes that option). Killing (as in landing the killing shot) can be tricky in a team. Blowing up fire traps props this 10 sec fire bullet timer . These are only my experiences for very limited testing but given the choice, I wouldn't bother with either of them. I am keen to try reclaimer (only have found 3 holsters so far), AlphaBridge (have two pieces) and DeadEye (also have two pieces) but have to do quite a bit more grinding for those.
  6. Hi All, Are you fed up with matchmaking and having everyone just go running off in their own direction when playing or of Rogues in the DZ and would rather play collaboratively in the PvE ?. Are you over on the Asia / Aus / NZ side of the world ?. Do you like the idea of teaming up and having a role in a group that adds strength to the group as a whole rather than just as a solo ?. If so them please get in touch. I am looking for other like minded players who favor the PvE portion of The Division (maybe with a bit of DZ but not the focus). The aim is to get some people together would would like to work as a team with specific roles and play missions / HVT / incursions tactically (rather than everyone just charging in and doing their own thing).I tend to be in the game from 8pm -> 10pm+ Singapore Time (GMT+8) weekdays and as time permits on the weekends. People joining would be expected to work as a team (make sure everyone hits the HVT before killing them, provide support and help recover downed team members where possible, share loot between the team etc). Voice comms: Preferred but not essential. Communication language: English but I also play with others who just understand a little and it still goes well so it does not have to be your 1st language. If you fancy trying this out then please get in contact here or via the sites PM system and we can link up in The Division and kick some HVT / Incursion butt. My UPlay id is the same as it is on this site.
  7. Advice wanted please for a decent Player vs NPC build mainly playing solo outside the DZ. Hi all, Due to RL schedules etc. - most of the time I end up playing "Division" solo (not a problem, I don't mind).... plus I'm age 60 so it's a lot harder to keep up with all of the younger folks (slower reflexes, arthritis, etc.), and I hate feeling like I'm slowing anyone down or need babysitting while playing. :) I totally hate PvP modes (yes, I know, I'm the rare oddball in this case), so I only play PvE mode fighting the NPCs. This also means that I stay away from playing in the DZ - except for the times here & there where I go into DZ to do one of the Daily Assignments that involves having to enter DZ. Thankfully with the new additions with the 1.2 patch/update (Search & Destroy), it's made playing the game lots of fun once again. My character is Level 30 with everything cleared & completed on the map. At this point, regular Credits seem worthless (almost 4 million), since there's nothing available for sale anywhere using credits that's remotely useful at this point. XPs are totally useless unfortunately, since we have the Level 30 player cap. So it's all about Phoenix Credits at this point (and trying to find something useful to spend some on when saving them up because of the 1000 Phoenix Credit cap), and continuing to collect materials for crafting. My Gear Level is around the 171-185 GL range - depending on which stuff I use - currently the higher GL stuff that takes me to 185 drops both DPS and Toughness quite a lot (mainly Health specifically). I'm still using several 163 GL golds, mixed with a couple of 182 golds. I have 1 set item of Strikers Knee Pads @ 214 (blueprint & crafted, which I use), Tacticians Authority Pack @ 214 (loot), & Lone Star Mask @ 191 (loot). Nothing really special on the Talents of the equipment pieces. My primary weapons are Vector 45 ACP @ 182, Aug A3 Para XS @ 163, Black Market AK-74 @ 182. All 3 are fairly close on DPS when mods are applied... but I prefer using the SMGs. My secondary weapon is First Wave M1A @ 163 (I actually use this a lot). My handgun is the Centurion pistol (bought solely for the GL 204). Nothing extra-special on the Talents on the weapons. Armor mitigation is around 53%. DPS is around 100k-120k depending on which items are used. Toughness is anywhere from around 100-165k depending on which items are used. Skill Power is just over 10k. I use Pulse (Tactical Scanner) & First Aid (Overdose), with "Recovery Link" as Signature. If I had the choice, I'd take that 10k of Skill Power and move it all to DPS or Toughness (in other words, I'm not big into the Skills). Talents are: Adrenaline, Critical Save, Combat Medic, & Battle Buddy. I never use any of the Consumables (yes, I know, not good), and I very seldom use any of the Grenades (yes, I know, not good). Unless I do something stupid, I typically have no trouble dealing with Missions on Hard and the Level 30 Elites. I saw a post reply that was done awhile back ithat basically said that a person with a GL of 151 (what the OP said he had) should have no trouble taking on the Lexington Event Center mission on Challenging difficulty. Umm... maybe that's true for most others... but I get toasted immediately. So besides simply "sucking" (which could be the case), maybe I'm missing something. For me, there seems to be a huge gap trying to go from handling the Level 30 elites to handling the Level 32 Elites. Clearly my entire set of gear needs overhauling in a big way (weapons included), that's obvious. Soooo, with all of this background info provided... what I'm looking for is some helpful advice on how to improve my character for PvE - hoping one day to be able to handle Challenging Mission difficulty and then try the 2 Incursions... from boosting gear level up, to boosting DPS via better weapon (this stands out to me as a big immediate need), better gear combinations for playing solo - but also effective when playing along with others (again, only meaning PvE) when the opportunity arises, so that I feel helpful to the group (doing my share of the work and not getting taken down easily & repeatedly, without feeling like I'm being "carried"). Many thanks in advance for your replies and helpful advice. :)

  9. PVE level difference

Hey Agents, has anyone done the math for level difference of enemies when in a group in PVE? example: lvl 25 agent, lvl 12 agent, lvl 8 agent are a group. What lvl will enemies be to lowest member of group? Is there a formula to know what that lvl will be?
  10. So now that the Beta is almost over, what is everyone's favorite part of the game so far, and why? i.e. Gunplay, Mobility, PvE encounters, Dark Zone, etc. (I like to start discussions!)
  11. Question for the community: What aspect(s) of the game do you think need to be addressed most heavily in the coming month prior to the launch of The Division?
