Xbox Series X Exclusive Details: Say Hello To Microsoft's Next-Gen Console from GameSpot.com
Next-gen consoles are almost here, and we just got our first look at the future of Xbox.

While preparing for my meeting with Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, to check out the design of Project Scarlett, claims of the next-gen console having four times the CPU power relative to Xbox One X floated in my head, orbited by specs like 8K and 120Hz. Could a system with those capabilities fit in an Xbox One X-sized console, or would Microsoft need to break convention and do something unpredictably big? And what would the price and name be? Spencer was joined by Partner Director of Program Management for Team Xbox, Jason Ronald, and together, they lifted the curtain on the console and laid out their plans a few days prior to the big reveal at The Game Awards.
Now I (and you) know: the next-gen Xbox previously known as Project Scarlett is officially called Xbox Series X, and it is, in no uncertain terms, a monolith. "We wanted to design a console where the form was driven by the function," said Spencer. "And the function--as I said--was to really play the highest power, most immersive games possible." Series X is a very different-looking console than what we're used to, and for my tastes, it's a beautiful-looking machine that commands attention. Looks aren't everything, but when they're this bold and refined, they're certainly hard to ignore.

A new generation of gaming consoles made by industry veterans Sony and Microsoft is scheduled to launch in about a year. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will go head-to-head holiday 2020 and, just as there was debate surrounding the power of the technology behind the PS4 and Xbox One leading up to holiday 2013, many are wondering which console will take the lead next generation.
Again, just like the PS4 and Xbox One, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are reported to be similar for the most part, though Phil Spencer has claimed in the past that the Series X will outperform the PS5 to some capacity. Both consoles will be utilizing an AMD Zen 2 CPU processor and AMD Navi-based Graphics. Another popular phrase that has been floating around these consoles is a rendering technique called ray tracing, which is supported in both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X, more accurately referred to only as the "Xbox", is still shrouded in a fair deal of mystery. While everything about its specs is still under scrutiny, there is another aspect that needs to be addressed: the price. While the Xbox Series X has not yet been released to the public, details and speculations are still coming in hard and fast for the future Microsoft console. The question of load times has been raised, among others, but only now is a figure emerging as to how much that technology may actually set buyers back, and it is quite a figure. In a series of tweets, analyst Daniel Ahmad explained that, after examining the Bill of Materials for the console, a single Series X console must be somewhere in the ballpark of $500 to manufacture. The CPU/GPU and memory alone would make up around half of that price, and that's not even counting the cost of the assembly itself. While the design might allow the Xbox Series X to run as quiet as a mouse, it is clear that the phrase "spared no expense" was applied quite liberally and literally in the console's construction.
