Support Gunner Build

In The Division, I do the same thing I do in the field in the Army in RL. I am qualified for the M249 SAW. So I threw together a build to mimic what I am in my platoon of Quartermasters. For this build, it's called the Support Gunner. With the Support Gunner you will be responsible for all of suppressive fire of enemy forces. Being able to lag down effective fire on target, could mean victory for your team. I use this same system and it works for me. For this the focus is on Firearms and electronics. Firearms for when you are not suppressing targets you can deal good damage, and electronics for your skills.

So let's get down to basics.

For your primary you will be using a LMG.

I Like to use the M249 Para. Some ideas to look for are below:                                                                       High Capacity Mag: I have an extra 75 rounds to throw.

I also focus on mods that grant horizontal stability and overall stability. This allows me to be able to better control of my fire for effect.

Secondary: I'll leave this up to you. I go back and forth from and SMG, Assault Rifle or shotgun depending on my combat environment.

Skills:

I like to use the sticky bomb with the BFB mod and the turret with active sensor. Because of my high electronics the damage I deal with the bomb is extreme. Ask my squad mates. I've made named enemies in the dark zone disappear. The turret is for additional fire support in an area you are unable to cover. It is capable of suppressive fire as well and due to your high electronics, hits like a bull when it lands shots.

Talents:

I will leave these up to you but the ones I use are:

Demolition expert, tech support, chain reaction, and stopping power.

When I have more time I'll add more into this, like pictures and a video.

Thanks for this. I've been playing around with it the last few days.  I'm not very well geared yet (70k, 15k, 20k)  but I've found that I can be effective at pinning hostiles down. I've gone a slightly different way with my skills at the moment though, pairing the sticky bombs with the support station (ammo mod) that I drop behind me when I move into position.

Similar here but mixed with some MMORPG group nods.

In the Regs I was an LSW gunner so I've gone that route. Although I'm only still level 15 I'm loving the stable and accurate gun platform, to me its better than the M249 as the L86 LSW has a slightly lower RoF meaning I can burst fire more effectively. Its great at suppressing multiple snipers for example.

I have a Blue LSW with a heavy spring magazine which also has increased ammunition capacity, ACOG x4 (no SUSAT in game....makes me sad), foregrip of course and compensator over silencer. The compensator helps me build aggro and also has a bonus to vertical stability.

Essentially I'm allowing the rest of the squad I'm in to advance on flanks as I build aggro and suppress from medium distance. With this build I usually run with the pulse and medical pack. Theory is I pulse to pick out targets for my team who are busy swapping cover more than I am and can throw the medical pack forward of my position to give them a solid fall back point where they can heal and receive direct covering fire.

EDIT - I just realised...this is essentially The Division equivalent of a fantasy MMO Paladin build. Semi-tank with aggro building ability plus party healing. HAHA!

I like the idea, and the real world connection. Sadly, I was but a mere AC130U sensor op so I didn't get to lay down suppression fire. :(

Still, I really like that the build is essentially a big rock for the opponents to ram into while your allies move around. I've done a bit with it, I'm not very good yet but I use the turret and the mobile cover. Set up shop in front of a group, close off the choke point, and give my allies a way through or a clear shot.

Very nice.

Don't worry about the real world connections to much ... I'm just being nostalgic because I'm old. LOL

I toyed with the idea of using the mobile cover but so far I've found hard cover is so readily available already that the times I would have needed a mobile shield or placeable cover have been quite minimal. The in-game cover being indestructible of course. Also I've found far to many random PuG players don't have heavy healing / group healing abilities tooled up so I've focused on that aspect ... that and I'm familiar with playing Paladin builds in other MMO's.

Group Healer / Semi-Tank builds are versatile when alone and using PuG's but with a co-ordinated group and in the DZ I'd be more likely to drop the Echo for example and be more specialist Tank

One reason I like the support station is the healing-- great for me as I can dish out fire longer before having to duck behind cover and it also  helps any nearby teammates if we're pinned down together.

RE: portable cover, I agree that there's so much readily available that don't feel the need to make my own.
